Shannon Carmichael
Backing vocals
(Durga McBroom)
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, Shannon picked-up a dilapidated
piece of plastic by Mattel called Mr. Microphone! (and as they say, the
rest is history). Although broken-down and missing the back panel, this Mr.
was most likely Shannon’s first true love, and forever referred to as "the
one that got away" (no batteries, no problem!!!) Shannon's love of
performing began at an early age, embarrassing her mom at the local A&P
grocery store, while entertaining customers with impromptu performances of
the Sesame Street soundtrack.
Luckily, Shannon began singing more professionally (and with much better
p.a. equipment) at Ferris State University performing with the Collegiate’s
Vocal Jazz Group, and the FSU Jazz Ensemble. She also performed the
Canadian and American National Anthems for 8 years annually at the Saline
Celtic Festival. During the past 10 years, Shannon has continued to perform
with various bands throughout Michigan, which include: Million Reasons,
Duck 'N Cover, Arch Rival, The Brent Daniels Band, G-Spot Tornadoes, and
more recently with the Shannon Carmichael Jazz Quartet. In addition, she
has co-hosted "Open Mic Night" at the Sawmill, and has had the honor of
appearing as a guest vocalist with Detroit area's, Brother's Groove.
Musical influences include: Weather Report, Etta James, The Beatles, Yes,
Genesis, Frank Zappa…and of course Pink Floyd! Shannon's 1st Floyd album
was "A Momentary Lapse of Reason", but it was “Live at Pompeii” which
helped her to recognize the true greatness of Gilmour. Favorite Floyd album
to date: "Animals".
Favorite musicians met: Chris Squire, Alan White and Steve Howe of Yes;
Victor Wooten and Bela Fleck of Bela Fleck & The Flecktones; and Napolean
Murphy Brock from Frank Zappa's band.
